At Reno Rabbit Rescue, our mission is simple but critical: to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome rabbits in need. While many people think of dogs and cats when they hear the word “rescue,” rabbits are often overlooked despite being the third most surrendered pet in shelters across the country. That’s why our work is so important—and why we need your support.
Why Do Rabbits Need Rescue?
Rabbits are wonderful companions, but they’re also one of the most misunderstood pets. Many people purchase rabbits without understanding their specific needs, leading to a large number of bunnies being abandoned or surrendered when the reality of care sets in. Unfortunately, rabbits in shelters often don’t get the attention they deserve, and without rescue organizations like ours, many would face uncertain futures.
Our Process: Rescue, Rehabilitate, Rehome
Our work begins with rescue. We take in rabbits from shelters, hoarding situations, and even from the streets. These rabbits often arrive scared, malnourished, or injured, but our team is dedicated to giving them a second chance.
Rehabilitation is where the real transformation happens. With proper care, medical attention, and plenty of love, these rabbits begin to recover both physically and emotionally. We work to socialize them, ensuring they’re ready to become cherished members of a new family.
Finally, we focus on rehoming. Every rabbit deserves a loving, forever home, and we’re committed to finding the perfect match for each bunny in our care. We thoroughly screen potential adopters to ensure they understand the commitment involved in caring for a rabbit.
How You Can Help
Our rescue relies on the generosity of animal lovers in our community. Whether through donations, fostering, or volunteering, there are many ways you can make a difference:
Volunteer: From helping at events to caring for rabbits at our facility, volunteers are the backbone of our organization.
Donate: Your financial support helps cover medical care, food, and other essential supplies for the rabbits.
Foster: Open your home to a rabbit in need, providing temporary care until they’re adopted.
Success Stories
We’re proud to have helped hundreds of rabbits find their forever homes. Take, for example, Flopsy, a sweet bunny who came to us after being abandoned. She was frightened and unsure, but with time, she blossomed into a happy, affectionate rabbit. Today, Flopsy lives with a loving family who adores her.
