Meet Ona: A Sweet Bunny with a Big Heart

When Dawn saw Ona’s face on Reno Rabbit Rescue’s Facebook page on October 25th, she felt an instant connection. “He was stuck at the county and needed to be sprung,” Dawn shared. “I just knew I had to make room for him in my foster home if possible.”

From the moment he arrived, Ona proved to be special. His very first night, he stood on his back legs at the pen’s edge, hoping for head scratches. Within days, his gentle and loving nature shone through, and Dawn gave him the name Ona, which means “sweetness” in Hawaiian.

However, Ona’s sweetness comes with a few quirks. Dawn noticed he seemed to rely on his sense of smell more than his sight, often sniffing his way around. When she set up his litter box in a corner, Ona would push it to the middle. “I think he uses it as a guide,” Dawn explained. Now, the litter box stays in the middle of his pen, where Ona can hop around it comfortably. With a vet visit on the horizon, the hope is to learn more about Ona’s eyes and how to support him best.

Despite these challenges, Ona’s personality radiates love and charm. He adores being talked to and insists on his favorite morning ritual—head scratches. His journey reminds us that every bunny deserves compassion, care, and a second chance at a happy life.

At Reno Rabbit Rescue, every bunny receives a full veterinary exam, vaccinations for RHDv2, and spay/neuter procedures. Some, like Ona, require additional diagnostics, treatments, or specialized care.

Your generous donations help ensure that rabbits like Ona get the medical attention they need to thrive and prepare for their fur-ever homes. Thank you for supporting these sweet buns and making a difference in their lives. ❤️
