Immediate release: 5.1.26
Reno Rabbit Rescue has successfully conducted Bunny Yoga since 2019 during which time we have not experienced an outbreak of any disease including cryptosporidiosis.
Reno Rabbit Rescue adopts rabbits who will be housed indoors. This policy avoids many safety and health concerns including Cryptosporidiosis (crypto).
Crypto is more frequently found in pet rabbits who are housed outside, because, unfortunately, those rabbits, are housed in very small spaces and left to sit in or near their own feces. Cryptosporidiosis is a more common disease among households who choose to breed rabbits for food consumption or for selling as pets.
Reno Rabbit Rescue adopts to households that litter-box train their rabbits. Litter-box training a rabbit is fairly easy once the rabbit is altered. After spay or neuter, a rabbit is much less likely to “mark their territory” with their own urine or droppings. Litter box training also reduces the risk of diseases, such as crypto, that are often prevalent in unsanitary rabbit housing such as cages or hutches.
One of our long time veterinary partners reports that she has not seen any rabbits with a diagnosis of cryptosporidiosis in Washoe County for the entire time she has practiced.
During our Bunny Yoga classes, our volunteers maintain the tidiness and sanitary conditions of the yoga mats and area by cleaning and sanitizing during the event. Reno Rabbit Rescue’s last Bunny Yoga event was over 3 months ago, in December 2025.
Reno Rabbit Rescue is a registered non-profit that relies solely on private donations and fundraising events such as Bunny Yoga and Hoppy Hour. Reno Rabbit Rescue founder stated “It is detrimental to our ability to conduct events or fundraise amid rumors, speculation or false allegations. We request that news outlets involved in this story clarify and remove pictures of rabbits in their previous reporting and online posts.”
